According to a manuscript on the Acton Family history, Reverend Robert Bailey conducted services in a "brush arbor" in the Rocky Ridge Community in 1853. The results of this meeting was the organization of the Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church on June 5, 1854 with eleven charter members and three elders. Robert Bailey and Emerson Acton were the ministers that aided the church's organization. The congregation met in a log building near the present site, and they were ministered to once each month on a Saturday afternoon and a Sunday morning by the Reverend George M. Simpson, a Circuit Rider Minister.
