The Ministry Council is pleased to announce the selection of Edith Old of Memphis, Tennessee, to fill the new position of Director of Ministries. Ms. Old is an elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Germantown where she is a Sunday School teacher and has served on numerous committees. She comes to the Ministry Council with a wide variety of experience and skills that make her qualified to take on the multiple responsibilities listed in the Job Description for our new Director of Ministries effective September 1, 2008. As the Regional Vice President for Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Memphis, Ms. Old has been involved in all aspects of Clovernook which is a manufacturing operation that provides job training and placement for individuals who are blind and visually impaired. Edith Old is a teacher, manager, writer, and grant writer with special skills in marketing, public relations, editing, technology, media, video production, special event and conference coordination, fundraising, budgeting, and non-profit finances. Prior to working for Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Ms. Old was employed by Keep Tennessee Beautiful as Communications Coordinator, by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Public Affairs Specialist, Clean Tennessee Program at the University of Memphis, by the U.S. Air Force Yokota Base Education Center as Far East Field Coordinator, and by Tokyo Centre for Language & Culture in Tokyo, Japan as a teacher of English as a Second Language. She earned her B.A. in Communications from Queens College (cum laude) in Charlotte, NC; and has done graduate work at University of Memphis and University of Oklahoma. Throughout her career, Edith Old has received numerous awards and commendations and most recently was named to the Leadership Memphis Class of 2009; in 2006 she was named one of Memphis Women’s Magazine’s 50 Women Who Make A Difference; in 2004 she was recognized by the Tennessee Recycling Coalition as the state’s Individual Recycler of the Year. Some of Ms. Old’s memberships include: Leadership Memphis, Center for Nonprofit Management, Crescent Club, Downtown Rotary Club, eWomenNetwork, and TN Pollution Prevention Partnership. Along with other memberships, Edith volunteers in myriad church, school and community activities. Edith Old grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Memphis and found the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Germantown through family friend Beverly St. John. Edith and her teenage daughter and son have been active at Germantown for nearly 16 years. |
