Order by Cumberland
Presbytery to create Cumberland Synod
...and it is hereby expressly directed and mutually agreed,
that said Elk
and Logan
Presbyteries meet this Presbytery with their documents on the
first Wednesday in October at the Beech
meeting-house, in Sumner county, and State of Tennessee,
for the express purpose of constituting a Synod; and it is hereby
directed that the committee appointed to draw up a complete though
succinct account of the rise, doctrines, etc., of the Cumberland
Presbytery, make their report to the Synod when constituted.
And it is hereby ordered that Messrs. Bell,
Kirkpatrick, and Ewing
divide in three equal parts, as near as may be, all the books
and money belonging to the Cumberland Presbytery Library, and
allot to this Cumberland
Presbytery one part, to the members intended to compose
the Elk
Presbytery one part, and to the members intended to compose
the Logan
Presbytery the other part, to be disposed of in their
several Presbyteries according to the institution of the library.

It appearing from the minutes that the members designated by the last general Cumberland Presbytery to constitute the Logan and Elk Presbyteries, did so constitute according to that order, and a majority of the members of the three Presbyteries being now present, do hereby agree, according to the order of the last general Cumberland Presbytery, after the necessary prerequisities, to constitute a Synod.
The Rev.
William McGee, according to order, proceeded to preach
a sermon from Romans, as preparatory, and then by prayer, constituted
the Logan,
Cumberland,
and Elk
Presbyteries into a Synod, to be known by the name of the Cumberland
Synod.
