COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES

Of Cumberland Presbyterian
Seminary.

The school term of Cumberland Presbyterian Seminary closed at noon on Wednesday of this week, following which the Commencement Exercises took place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the Seminary.

The Commencement Sermon was preached at the C. P. Church last Sunday morning, June 5th, by Rev. I. Q. Melton. The church was well filled, and the sermon, which was considered one of Bro. Melton's best, was very appropriate for the occasion.

On Wednesday evening, June 8th, the Exercises by the Primary and Intermediate Departments were held at the Seminary, and were attended by a large audience. Mrs. W. W. Little, who has had charge of these departments for the past year, deserves especial praise for the success of the entertainment, which was highly enjoyed by all present. The little folks were well trained, and deserve their share of praise.

The programme for Thursday evening consisted of Exercises by the Music Department, with Recitations and Exercises of Graduation. The audience was equally as large as on the preceding evening, and it was very clearly shown that all present were well entertained. Mrs. Z. W. Woodruff, who has filled the position as Teacher of Instrumental Music during the school year, is also to be congratulated upon the success of her efforts, and the pupils come in for a liberal share of the many compliments and congratulations from the audience.

Mr. C. W. Whiteside, having completed his course of study in a manner satisfactory to the faculty of the school, graduated with high honors, delivering an oration, at the close of which Prof. N. J. Finney, the president of the institution, conferred upon him the Diploma and honors which he so well deserved. The congratulations which were showered upon Mr. Whiteside were many, and were full of the very best wishes for his future success in life.

The exercises for the evening closed with the rendering of Sousa's Liberty Bell March by the Seminary Orchestra.

The Faculty, composed of Prof. N. J. Finney, Miss Sallie Carothers, Mrs. W. W. Little and Ms. Z. W. Woodruff, has labored faithfully during the year for the upbuilding of the school and for the mental and moral development of their pupils, and we sincerely hope that success has crowned their efforts, and bespeak for them long lives of usefullness and happiness in the years to come.
