MADISONVILLE, Ky.

The Rev. J.C. Womack, 81, of Madisonville died at 4:11 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2000, at his residence.

He was born in White County, Ark., on Dec. 4, 1918, to the late Kit Carson Womack and Nancy Elizabeth Gammil Womack.

He was a retired Cumberland Presbyterian minister having served since May 1946. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbytery and held pastorites in Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. He was the former executive secretary and clerk for the Kentucky Synod for fifteen years which was longer than anyone else had previously served. He also held revivals in several states.

He is survived by his wife, Rene Womack of Madisonville; one daughter, Rhena Elizabeth Holeman of Henderson, Ky.; three sons, Waymond Womack of Las Vegas, Nev., Jerry Womack of Madisonville, and Tommy Womack of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Nannie Goode of Atoka, Tenn.; two brothers, Rev. W.M. "Bill" Womack of Heber Springs, Ark., and Carlton Womack of Searcy, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Briar Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Muhlenberg County with the Revs. Robert Truitt, James Talley, and Joe Vaught officiating. Burial will follow in Briar Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the church.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Briar Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
