Rev. V. A. Jones, 76, of 402 Henry Street, Greensburg, Kentucky was killed instantly at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, September 13, in a head-on collision eleven miles north of Greensburg on highway 61.
Brother Jones entered the ministry in 1915 and gave 55 of his 76 years to the work of the Church.
He served six years on the Board of Trustees of Memphis Theological Seminary, during the period when the Seminary moved from McKenzie to Memphis. Besides other pastorates he had served as pastor of the Greensburg church 35 years and at the time of his death was pastor of Good Hope and Kelleyville churches in Taylor County.
Rev. Jones was one of the widest known and best loved ministers of Kentucky Synod. His friendly handshake, warm greeting, ready smile, and quick wit, made of him a person you enjoyed meeting and fellowshiping with. His life had touched and influenced the lives of many people over the years, especially in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He has already been, and will continue to be greatly missed in the work of Kentucky Synod. Yet, somehow--even as I write this I can feel it--his influence, the impact of his life, will live on. He will continue to be a power for good in our midst.
Our prayer and faith is that the peace and blessings of God, the comfort and strength of His Holy Spirit may continue to undergird, comfort, sustain the broken-hearted family and many friends of this one, who was loved so dearly and taken so suddenly from us.
