FORMER MODERATOR CLAIMED BY DEATH
Rev. S. T. Byars, who was moderator of the General Assembly in 1945, died in Elizabethtown, Ky., January 5.

Rev. Mr. Byars who was 89, had been a pastor for fifty-seven years and in additional had supplied pulpits for ten years after retiring.

During his ministry he served pastorates in various parts of the denomination, including Beech church, Nashville Presbytery, Fayetteville, Tenn. church, First church in Detroit, which he organized, First church, Birmingham, Ala., Irvington, ky., and Rogersville, Ala., where he served for fifteen years and where he was buried.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Novella Hitt Byars, three sons, fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He organized the first youth camp in Alabama-Florida-Mississippi Synod; served on the Assembly Board of Publication and on numerous committees and commissions.
