The 1st group of Cumberland Presbyterian Preachers Colored in Texas were as follows: Reverend E. Burrough, Mack Anthony, James Flowers, Joe Anderson, Anderson Doty, Frank McElwee, Bob Bradford, G. W. Thompson, H. Martin, H. Session, Wm. Blanton, J. B. Sadler, J. R. Bush, J. A. Russell, I. Snowden, E. M. Estelle, H. C. Cleaver, A. Short, D. J. Wallace, H. B. Borrough, and Berry Stewart. All of which has deceased.


SECOND GROUP

F. Hill, M. O. Starling, P. H. Moore, R. B. Glasper, J. D. Hampton, W. H. Wallace, Jas. Fuller, E. Lacy, B. W. McElwee, R. Johnson, C. H. Jordan, J. S. Hampton, and Perry Simpson. Fuller, Hampton, Lacy, Johnson, Hill, Moore, and Hamilton survive this group.


THIRD GROUP

W. L. Lacy, Zack Adams, (Two Brothers) Haliburton, N. H. Hampton, George Session, S. A. Nelson, and J. E. Dixon. Adams and Hampton are deceased.


FOURTH GROUP

D. R. Burkley, W. V. Christopher, Jim Tucker, Sampson Hill and G. B. Trible.


FIFTH GROUP

P. C. Christopher, Ossie Christopher, C. B. Bradford and O. B. Hampton.


SIXTH GROUP FROM OTHER CHURCHES:

Loving, Boatner, Cole, Fryson, Tidwell and Kyles and gone from whence they came. Bragner, Fryley, Hall and Rogers have deceased and Jefferson, March and Wilkerson are still in the fold.

PRESBYTERY ORGANIZED

The Texas Presbytery was organized about 1870, from which came the Angelina, Brazos River and East Texas Presbyteries. From these the Texas Synod was organized in 1884.

The Angelina Convention was organized in 1890. J. F. McElwee Pres. and S. A. Lacy Secretary.

East Texas Presbytery was organized in 1875.

Brazos River and Angeline Presbyteries were organized also in the 70's.


THE OLDEST CHURCHES

East Texas Presbytery, Nacogdoches the name of which was Union Libarian,--E. Burough and others.

Angelina Presbytery, Silent Grove,--H. Martin and others.

Brazos River Presbytery, Rock Spring,--J. B. Sadler and others.

The oldest Elder in Texas is Pete Neal of Pino Grove Henderson, who claims to have been in the church 75 years. The oldest member is sister Miriah Robinson of Meridian. The oldest minister is F. Hill of East Texas Presbytery, who was ordained by Rev. H. Burrough, D. J. Wallace and H. Session at Pine Grove Clayton July 17, 1880. He has officially married 104 couples, attended 200 funerals, Preached 15000 sermons, held 13,000 church sessions, received at one revival 38 members at Rock Hill, largest collection taken at one time $51.30 at Mt. Hebron, taken up by M. B. Boling. Pastored every church in Texas except 4 and was called to two of them.

S. A. Nelson is originator of the Conversional Rally, which has proved to be a success.

The State Convention was organized by F. Hill, J. C. McDaniel and others at Nacogdoches in 1901.

The National Convention idea was originated by L. P. Hardin of Waco.
